Rose Quartz Healing Properties: The Stone of Unconditional Self-Love

Rose quartz, like its blushing pink hue, is tied to gentleness, soothing energy, and love. Favored as a beauty treatment by the Egyptian goddess Isis, and used by modern energetic practitioners, this humble pink crystal is more than meets the eye.

“Don’t let the soft pink color and soothing energy of this stone fool you into discounting its power,” writes Naisha Ahsian in The Book of Stones: Who They Are and What They Teach.

The Sedona, Arizona based author calls it “one of the most important stones of our time,” touting the metaphysical properties of rose quartz.

“Rose quartz is one of the most humble, yet most powerful of the spiritual allies,” she writes. The crystal’s ability to move energy from the hara point (below the navel) to the heart chakra makes rose quartz exceptional for energy work, she explains.

Ahsian’s Book of Stones co-author Robert Simmons also muses about the importance of rose quartz healing properties. “Meditating with one of these stones provides an envelope of love energy around oneself and activates the heart chakra for the emanation of one’s innate love,” writes Simmons. He believes that rose quartz can help dissolve boundaries of isolation and mistrust, and cultivate self-love. “Healing the heart of its wounds and reawakening its trust is one of rose quartz’s gifts,” writes Simmons.

Rose Quartz Metaphysical Properties: A High Vibration Heart Activator

Used in reiki and many forms of bodywork, polished rose quartz stones and wands, like rose quartz jewelry, carry a powerful current. They vibrate to the number 7, and are key players in an energetic practice. Jolie DeMarco, the author of High Vibe Crystal Healing, considers rose quartz part of her crystal “emergency kit,” and carries it along with amethyst, selenite, and other mineral kingdom heavy hitters.

“For Reiki work I use polished rose quartz crystals about four centimeters in diameter,” writes Walter Lubeck in The Complete Reiki Handbook. “The warm, pink vibration corresponds to the loving quality of the heart chakra.”

“All deep healing is achieved through the energy of this center,” he continues. “The pink light of rose quartz gently reminds the energy bound up in the blockages of the love that awaits it, thus raising it to the surface of consciousness.” Lubeck references the ancient Chinese text I Ching, linking the metaphysical properties of rose quartz to the human plane, while amethyst represents the heavens and rock crystals, the earth.

“While rock crystals help to illuminate your breakthrough into ‘oneness’ in a process of growing awareness with their vibrations,” writes Lubeck, “rose quartz helps you develop the ability to accept your rediscovered parts in a loving manner and integrate them into your personality.” He suggests meditating with rose quartz to accept the “rough edges” in yourself and others, and make peace with the “chaos” and unavoidable “imperfections of the world.”

“It is a perfect stone to give to your mother or to hold if you are one; it helps you with patience and compassion.”

Rose Quartz Magical Properties: An Ancient Ally in Beauty and Romance

Tied to motherhood, fertility, and feminine power, rose quartz properties extend deep into oral tradition. In Greek legend, rose quartz received its distinctive pink color from the goddess Aphrodite’s blood. And in Roman myth, it was Cupid that gifted the powerful pink crystal to humans as a token of passion, happiness, and love.

DeMarco suggests adding rhodochrosite, carnelian, and red jasper to a healing crystal grid to enhance the loving rose quartz properties. These rosy, heart opening stones are used to attract like minded love or fortify and deepen existing love, she explains. In The Encyclopedia of Crystals, Judy Hall suggests placing rose quartz in the bedroom to correct sexual imbalances, summon a partner, or heal from love and loss.

“A stone of unconditional love and infinite peace, rose quartz is the most important crystal for healing the heart and the heart chakra,” writes Hall. “This beautiful stone promotes receptivity to beauty of all kinds.” Perhaps in a more literal sense, rose quartz metaphysical properties have been a part of beauty treatments throughout the ages.

Employing the powerful pink stone in facials, the Egyptian goddess Isis tapped into rose quartz properties to maintain her status as a beauty icon. Today, as in ancient China, rose quartz is used in gemstone facial rollers and gua sha tools alongside jade, lapis lazuli, and red jasper. The relaxing gemstone facials are beloved for their ability to boost circulation and aid in lymphatic draining.

“Rose quartz is one of the most important stones to wear, to use in meditation, sleep and body layouts, and to keep in one’s environment.”
